Contribution to the Study of the History of English Colonies in North America with the Special Regard to the Ways of Their Administration

The thesis lays emphasis on the establishment and exercise of English colonial policy and authority in Virginia during the 17th century. The thesis deals with the political bodies, administrative structure and framework of political system. Primarily is focused on the character, activity, the causes of conflicts and their resolutions. The thesis concentrates on the relations among the leading institutions in Virginia; e.g. Governor, Council of State, General Assembly, but also between Virginia and England. Further, tries to get hold of the ways of appointment of the governors, councillors and election of the burgesses. The thesis also describes the origin and development of the county and local system. Cocoa Trade in Colonial Spanish America

My dissertation is focusing on the cocoa trade in colonial Spanish America. Cocoa is undoubtedly one of the New World products which has dominated Europe. The work is divided into four chapters. The first chapter focuses on pre-Columbus period. It describes the origin of cocoa bean, its spread and its significance to the first cultivators. Considerably big part of this chapter is dedicated to the importancy of cocoa bean for the Aztecs culture.The next chapter focuses on the arrival of Spanish colonists, their first experiences with cocoa bean, the beginning of the cocoa trade and its introduction and spread to Europe. The main points of the third chapter are the main areas of cocoa production and trading in the colonial period. Each part of this chapter focuses not only on the trade in Venezuela, Ecuador and New Spain but also on other related topics. The fourth chapter briefly describes Bourbon reforms and shows their influence on different areas of production in 18th and the beginning of 19th century. The British colonial government in Kenya and the Mau Mau uprising

This bachelor thesis British colonial government in Kenya and the Mau Mau uprising describes the most important measures taken by the British colonial government during the State of Emergency in Kenya (1952-1960), outlines the British point of view on Kenya and through several examples attempts to analyze the extent of autonomy of the British colonial administration in Kenya. The State of Emergency was declared in 1952 in order to protect the white settlers in Kenya and to quickly crush the uprising of the anti-colonial militant Mau Mau movement, which was formed mainly by the members of the Kikuyu tribe. Although the dispute used to be perceived as a racial struggle of Africans against Europeans, it was in fact an internal fight in the Kikuyu tribe incited by the measures taken by the British colonial government. This thesis looks into the events in Kenya during the 1950s in four main chapters. First chapter presents the colony's development up to 1952 and the historic introduction follows up with the second chapter. Second chapter should answer the question of which measures have been taken against Mau Mau and describes the most important operations and programmes that have influenced the course of the State of Emergency. The comparison of French and British colonial legacies in political systems of West Africa

This thesis deals with colonial legacies in West Africa. The aim is to analyze British and French colonial legacies in West African political systems. Methodology is based on comparative analysis on four levels, namely: international system, state, civil society and political leaders. The first analytical part deals with comparison of British and French colonial rule in West Africa. The second part focuses on colonial legacies in Ghana and Côte d'Ivoire.
